This is usually when the fish is not even STATE legal much less weigh in legal. I have been called about every name in the book and have had people threaten to "kick my ass". One thing I have learned from weighing fish is that some people take this VERY seriously.
I later found him and weighed in his other cubera after Ritchie pointed out the law and we found out how it works in Florida. The cuban freediver I dq'ed one of his fish. I AM NOT ALWAYS RIGHT, CORRECT, OR EVEN KNOWLEDGABLE! We can all scrrew up and this was the first tourney I had two different divers weigh in 2 cubera snaps at the same time. I cant make the decisions based on the benefit for the diver but must try to make the best decision that I am able to for the benefit of the tournament. As to specific species there were 2 instances were I had to make the call and dq the fish. I "petted" many a mango, grouper and hog to make them measure. I HATE DISQUALIFING ANYTHING!!! I hated every time I had to put a 13 inch hog (to the fork) back in someones cooler.
